Passion-tide and the music of J. S. Bach have been linked to each other for centuries. It is almost impossible to pass through the Lenten season without having some contact with the great Baroque master’s settings of the Passions according to St John and St Matthew. So powerful is their message and so uplifting their music, as Christ’s miserable betrayal and crucifixion and His eventual triumph over death are relived, that they offer, for many, one of the richest and most meaningful ways to worship during Lent.
Some of this profound music will be part of a special service in St Finbar’s Catholic Church, Glenbrook on the evening of
Good Friday at 7.30pm.
Offering choral and organ music of J. S. Bach together with special readings and meditations, this service will feature several of the wonderful chorale settings from the Passions including O Sacred Head and the sublime final chorus from the St John Passion. In the tradition of the great Bach settings, the congregation will also participate, singing in two of the hymns.
